India's Telecom Subscriber Base Reached 1.19 Billion in December 2022: TRAI
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of Republic of india (TRAI) recently released the Telecom Subscription Data highlights report for December 2017. Co-ordinate to the report, the telecom subscriber base in India grew to 1.19 billion by the end of 2017, with Reliance Jio responsible for adding over 8 million new customers in the last calendar month itself.
The report stated:
"The number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 1,185.88 million at the terminate of Nov-17 to i,190.67 million at the cease of Dec-17, thereby showing a monthly growth charge per unit of 0.40%. The urban subscription increased from 684.89 1000000 at the terminate of Nov-17 to 688.25 million at the end of Dec-17, and the rural subscription likewise increased from 500.99 1000000 to 502.42 million during the same period. The monthly growth rates of urban and rural subscription were 0.49% and 0.28% respectively during the calendar month of December-17."
The written report further pointed out that the mobile telephony segment led the growth past adding 4.97 million customers divided between five telecom operators – Reliance Jio, Thought Cellular, Vodafone, Bharti Airtel, and BSNL. Jio led the growth, followed past Idea Cellular with ii.43 meg new subscribers, while Vodafone added 1.five meg new subscribers in the same fourth dimension menstruum. Airtel and BSNL added 576,575 and 421,836 subscribers, respectively.
Other telecom subscribers in the mobile segment lost a significant number of subscribers. According to the report, Aircel lost over 2.65 million subscribers, Reliance Communications lost ii.3 meg, Telenor 1.71 million, Tata Teleservices 1.3 million, and MTNL lost 6,561 mobile subscribers. However, even though Reliance Communication shut downward its services recently, information technology retained 33.xvi million subscribers.
In the landline segment, the subscriber base declined to 23.23 one thousand thousand at the terminate of Dec 2017 from 23.41 1000000 at the finish of Nov 2017. Government-endemic BSNL, which is a bulk shareholder in the segment with a 53.v% market share, lost 127,842 landline subscribers, while private entities including Tata Teleservices, Vodafone, and Bharti Airtel added viii,294 connections, 7,625 connections, and 5,995 connections, respectively.
